ALGT (Antwerp) recently received several parcels of yellow diamonds, which were required to be identified and graded.
After being tested one by one, we found one yellow HPHT laboratory-grown diamond hiding among a parcel of natural yellow diamonds.
The weight of this yellow HPHT-grown diamond is 0.04 carat, and the color is vivid orangy yellow.
There are typical inclusions in this yellow HPHT-grown diamond, including dark metallic rods and some irregular shapes. Through FTIR testing, the yellow HPHT-grown diamond is type Ib with the main components of isolated nitrogen atoms.
When this yellow HPHT-grown diamond is illuminated by DiamondView (deep ultraviolet illumination at ~225 nm), it shows the ideal HPHT growth pattern. This “cross-like” pattern is due to a simultaneous cubic and an octahedral growth (at different growing speeds) which results in a different concentration of impurities causing this zoned fluorescence pattern.
The diamond research team of ALGT can assure that at present, ALGT Antwerp and Shanghai can precisely distinguish the natural, laboratory-grown, and treated diamonds.
